We Made Cheese

Yep, we made some farmers cheese.  I found a kit for making cheese online.  We read the directions before getting started so we wouldn’t screw anything up.

Turns out it was super simple to do.  First off we had to heat a quart of milk to 185 degrees.

Next step was to mix the citric acid in half a cup of water.  When the milk got to 185 degrees, you pour the citric acid mix to the milk.

This caused the milk to curdle nicely.

We then poured it into a colander lined with cheese cloth.

We added cheese salt, fresh cracked black pepper and chopped fresh rosemary to make the cheese super tasty.  We wrapped it in parchment paper and set it in the fridge to cool before we devoured it.

The cheese was very yummy and super easy to do.  If you want to try your hand at making cheese go to and look up urban cheesecraft.

  1. Well that looks tasty! What was the consistency when it was ready? Spreadable or sliced?

  2. It was tasty 🙂 It was crumbly like a goat cheese. We used 2% milk. I think next time we will try it with whole milk to see if and how it turns out differently.
